10 Things I Learned As A New Mom:
With Mother’s Day coming up and experiencing my first as a new mommy, I wanted to share things that I’ve learned so far. Motherhood is a life changing experience. There is no book or class that could have prepared me for this role. Everything has been a trial and error and every day I’m learning how to become a better mother. We’ve really developed a great routine with Kaia and follow it the best we can. It’s been a great 7 months and wanted to share 10 things that I have learned as a new mom:
How much it hurt to breastfeed in the beginning
I never knew how much it would hurt and how painful it is. Breastfeeding is a whole new world of learning how to latch properly and different positions to breastfeed. With lots of TLC of applying Motherlove nipple cream, I’ve learned to really enjoy breastfeeding and the bond we have.
Sleep deprived
This is one thing that I miss. A LOT. I’ve always heard the term nap when they nap. It’s so hard to even nap, because during the time baby is napping, I’m too busy trying to put the house back together. I find this is a great time to do laundry, dishes, shower, clean, the list goes on…
No time for yourself
It’s all about the baby and hard time finding a little quiet time for myself. Now that Kaia is a little older, I’ve slowly ventured out to have lunch with girlfriends and not feel bad about it.
Hard to have phone conversations
I used to get annoyed that my BFF with two kids wouldn’t call and if we did, we really couldn’t talk without any interruptions. (Sorry Nicole- Haha!) But, now that I’m a parent, I totally get it and understand! I don’t even like being on the phone anymore and just want that time doing other things.
Pet will be downgraded
My pets used to be my world and my babies. Now that Kaia is here, it’s so hard to give them that full attention. When Kaia is sleeping, I try to shower them with lots of love, but this has been a hard one for sure.
New Idea of “Vacation”
We used to take so many trips, but with a baby it’s a bit harder. My new idea of a vacation is getting my hair done, my nails, getting in a quick workout and having the house to myself. Ahh!!
Don’t get your period
I was so shocked to know that with breastfeeding, you don’t get your period. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not complaining one bit! One of the many perks of breastfeeding! Woohoo!!
Leaving the house takes a ton of effort than it ever used to be
We used to leave the house so quickly and now with a baby, it takes forever. You have to make sure that the diaper bag is packed with diapers, wipes, food, bib, spoon, medicine, teethers, change of clothes, sunscreen, etc. You should see it when we pack for a getaway… It’s crazy!
Date nights are tough. Hello Netflix
Our date nights out don’t really exist anymore and we now have a new profound love for Netflix. One great thing about date nights at home is that you can be comfy in the comfort of your home.
Being a mom is better than I have ever dreamed of!
Nobody can tell you how it feels to be a mom. You have to truly experience this for yourself to understand how it’s the most amazing feeling in the world! I think of our life before a baby, and yeah it was great, but having a baby brings so much more to life than I’ve ever dreamed of. Kaia giving me those slobbery kisses warms my heart like no other. I’ve learned patience is key and to just roll with the punches. Seeing my husband as a father makes me love him even more, to see a side to him in a whole new light. It’s really all the little things in life that matter now and those milestones like crawling and saying their first words that make life rewarding as a new mom. Life is just getting better and better and I’m so grateful to be a mom.
My mother has been such a great role model to be the best that I can be and I thank her all the time, because now I know what it’s like. She was a single mom, raising 3 daughters in a different country where English was her second language. I can’t even imagine. Raising one is hard enough. Love you so much, mom! I can’t thank you enough… She now loves being a grandmother to Kaia.
One of the perks of being a mommy to a daughter is that you get to wear matching outfits too! Haha! We are both wearing Lilly Pulitzer, which is a chic resort wear and beach wear line that offers bright colored prints for that jet-setting duo. Kaia is wearing their Baby’s Seashell Shift Dress and I’m wearing their Simone Seashell Shift Dress. Check out more of their matching mother daughter outfits here. It’s a perfect Mother’s Day outing outfit!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mother’s out there! It truly is the hardest and most rewarding job in the world!
