With the holidays in full gear, tis’ the season of holiday weight gain… It’s always the hardest time of year to stay focused on the healthy path when there are endless holiday parties, drinking chestnut praline lattes with friends and eating those baked goodies grandma just sent. This year, we decided that we weren’t going to let that holiday weight gain creep up on us. Cindy has been religiously working out with a trainer, so that she has to be accountable and show up to her early 5 a.m. sessions, while I (Kathy) have been working out anywhere outdoors, as I’ve got the beach as my backyard. (I know, what a tough life in Hawaii!)
Try some of our tips that we’ve been using to stay healthy this season. Indulge, but do it in moderation. DO NOT deprive yourself, life is all about balance!
GET A PARTNER IN CRIME
It’s always easier when you have a partner to workout with for keeping that motivation. It could be from a trainer to even walking with your dog. Working out with a buddy will make the time go by faster and it will keep you both to stay on track. (Cindy’s got her trainer and I’ve got Mana, my dog!)
DOWNLOAD AN APP
We’ve downloaded ‘Pro Tracker’ and it’s a great app that keeps a food journal on our phone of what we’ve consumed for the day and make sure we don’t go way over board on the calorie intake. It also keeps a fitness journal of what workouts we’ve done so that we are focused. It could even be a 20-minute walk, everything counts!
STAY AWAY FROM LIQUID CALORIES
Those mixed martinis can be filled with as much fat as a chocolate cake times 3 if you’re pounding those cocktails. Limit yourself to one and then opt for a low calorie alcohol drink like champagne. (4 oz glass = 85 calories)
GET RESISTANCE BANDS
These have been the best fitness purchase ever made! You can stretch and get a workout with these bands. They tone up your arms and a give a total-body sculpting workout. They pack up nicely and you can take them anywhere, even on a trip.
PLANK IT
Love doing planks, I think it’s an addiction. They really tone up the tummy area and you can do them anywhere. If you do 10 min. of planks every day, I promise you will feel so much better about your midsection.
FIND A WORKOUT YOU CAN DO AT HOME
Sometimes there is a thing called “Life” that happens and our schedule doesn’t happen accordingly. Whether you come home late or missed your gym appointment, it’s key to find a workout you can do in your home. I purchased Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown DVD on Amazon two years ago and now I have it memorized. It’s such a great workout that makes me sweat like I just ran 4 miles… no joke!
WEAR LUCY
Let’s be honest. When you look good, you feel good. This goes for workout gear too! Lucy Activewear fits amazing and it really helps when you have a supportive top and bottoms that suck everything in. It gives you motivation to working out when you look good doing it. Lucy makes a great selection of activewear that looks effortlessly chic. During the cold, I love wearing a pullover and cropped leggings.

BEVEL Sunglasses
Kate Hudson’s recent interview, she said the key to her being in great shape, is working out consistently even if it’s only for 20 min. a day. With that said, it’s all about being healthy, not skinny.
