It has been almost a month since Baby Kaia has arrived and wow, time is already flying by! As a new mother, I’m definitely learning by trial and error and of course asking all my mommy friends for their advice. Just to give you a quick update on how she’s doing, Kaia is eating like a champ and I feel like all I do is breastfeed her, no joke! Ha! The first few weeks were tough as I wasn’t used to a baby sucking on me constantly. My nipples were just raw and sore- ouch! As I’m getting the hang of it and making sure she is latching on properly, it’s getting better. I have a whole new respect for breastfeeding mothers, it’s a TOUGH job and never realized how demanding it is. MAJOR HIGH FIVES to you breastfeeding mamas! (But the most amazing bonding experience you could ever imagine and how incredible is the female body?!)

My husband really wanted to be apart of the feeding and bonding, so what we decided to do was have me pump a bottle at night and he can have the night shift for a few hours while I get some shut eye to be up early with the birds and the bees with her. I was really hesitant at first, because I was afraid that she would get confused with the bottle nipple vs. my nipple. I tried a few bottles that is supposed to replicate the nipple to see if that would help, but they all leaked or the nipple was way too fast for an infant. We then tried Dr. Brown’s Options Bottles and they worked liked a PRO! There was no leakage, she easily takes to the bottle and my nipple without any confusion, the ability for a vent option and best of all, the bottles fit onto my breast pump. Easy for my husband to just take it out of the fridge without pouring storage bottles into the actual bottles itself.

These bottles make our world a whole lot easier. It gives mommy some rest at night and daddy gets his bonding time with her. There also have been a few times where we had to run some errands and having a  bottle ready to go while we were in the car, made it so convenient rather than pulling over to feed her out of her car seat.  Now that we have found a few feeding solutions, we could really go for a little date night to a dinner and have grandma watch her. 😉

If you’ve never tried Dr. Brown’s options bottles, it’s the market’s first convertible bottle that can be used with or without the vent system. The new vent system is designed to grow with baby. The best part of this bottle is that it helps reduce feeding problems, helps with digestion and helps preserve vitamins. Perfect for Kaia so it doesn’t leave her gassy and uncomfortable.

Be sure to follow @DrBrowns instagram as I will be doing a takeover on Sept. 30th!

Also, if you mommy’s have any tips for me, I would love to hear what works for you and your family.

Kaia is weighing 9 pounds and 3 ounces and 22.5 inches long. She’s growing so big that nobody believes she’s a newborn. Haha! Her dress shown here at the top with the seahorse is a top on her not a dress! It’s so funny! All her 0-3 months don’t fit and she’s already wearing 3-6 months. She’s becoming more alert and loves her swing. (Mommy and daddy love it too!) 😉
