As you know, ViX has always been one of our favorite brands to wear that is so effortlessly chic and glam from day to night. We are thrilled to share our special interview with the beautiful Brazilian bombshell ViX designer, Paula Hermanny. Read on for all the deets she shared with us:
Q: We are such huge fans of ViX! You definitely know how to make bikini for a woman’s body. How did ViX evolve into the brand it is today? Tell us about your journey.
When I was 21, I moved from Brazil to San Diego to study English and fell in love with the city, the beaches, and the relaxed attitude of the people. My only issue was not being able to find a swimsuit that I liked. Every time I went back to Brazil, I would stock up on bikinis and make little tweaks and changes here and there. I went from customizing suits to designing, and that is how V i X was born.
Q: Who is the ViX woman?
The ViX woman appreciates quality, beauty and fit – and that is why she loves our suits. She follows fashion and knows the trends, but she does not live by them. She is confident, feminine, well-traveled and sophisticated. She appreciates the extra attention we pay to fit and to luxurious details such as high quality Lycra, 24-karat gold plated hardware and jewelry inspired details. Our resortwear suits her perfectly, because she can wear them poolside during the day, or in the evening for cocktails and dinner.
Q: Of all the styles, what is your go to bikini and why?
My favorite look has always been a great fitting white bikini and white sundress – it never goes out of style.
Q: What can we see from your 2015 Collection and where did you get your inspiration from?
I find inspiration when I travel – paying close attention patterns, colors, local cultures, people and books. Our Resort 2015 collection was influenced by Egypt’s treasures, sand dunes, blazing heat and culture of color. I’m currently putting final touches on the Summer 2015 collection, which is inspired by the colors and enchantment of the deep sea.
Q: We love to jet set in ViX Paula Hermanny! You make luxurious bikinis and resortwear that is perfect for any vacation. What can we see from ViX in the following years?
Although we started in swimwear, we now have evolved beyond the bikini. We will have more caftans, cover-ups, dresses and even rash guards, in addition to our classic swimwear. Our product offering will continue to evolve, this fall we will be introducing our first contemporary collection, Paula Hermanny.
Q: How would you define your personal style?
I love clothes that are feminine, versatile and luxurious. A good fit that accentuates a woman’s figure is very important in my personal wardrobe as well as in my collections.
Q: After vacationing in Brasil, we saw that every female (even kids) wore a Brasilian cut bottom. It didn’t even matter their size or shape. It was such a breath of fresh air to see, unlike here in the US, where everyone is so image conscious. What advice can you give regarding body image?
I always say “less is more” when it comes to swimwear. Bottoms that are too big or too loose are very unflattering. In the beginning, it was difficult to convince American women to embrace a smaller cut Brazilian bottom – but now they are a best seller! I think that trying to fit in to society’s general aesthetic ideals can be very discouraging – especially because body types are perceived differently all over the world. In South America, for example, women and men both prefer a fuller body type as opposed to North America where a taller, thinner aesthetic is the preference. Ultimately, there are many forms of beauty – the secret is to be comfortable in your own skin, emphasize your strong points and not worry about what others think.
Q: Tell us some of your favorites!
My entire family surfs, we usually go to Santa Teresa in Costa Rica.
I don’t wear a lot of make-up and I am always in the sun, so sunscreen is very important to me. I can’t live without my tinted moisturizer, Intellishade Broad-Spectrum SPF 45. It also has anti-aging benefits so it’s an all-in-one solution for daily maintenance.
