Z33A0267 Babies grow so fast and in the blink of an eye, they go from tiny little newborns to the adventurous toddler stage just like that. While it’s super cute for the sweet princess pinks and baby blue nurseries, why not decorate the nursery that will keep your nursery in style from baby to toddler to even junior high. (Okay, maybe not that long, but you get the point, Ha!)

While creating Kaia’s little nursery, I wanted a modern, chic nursery that I wouldn’t have to keep re-decorating and timeless at every stage of her growing life.

Here are some tips for a modern, chic nursery for your new bundle of joy:

Furniture They Can Grow Into

Choose furniture that can be used beyond the baby’s first year. Cribs nowadays can convert into a kids bed, like the 4-in-1 Delta crib pictured here that can go from a crib to toddler bed, daybed and full size bed with headboard and footboard. This saves a lot of money in the long run and something to think about when you’re shopping for baby furniture. Instead of a changing table, opt for a beautiful dresser they can use when they are older. Add fun elements, like a indoor/outdoor teepee tent for when the baby grows into a toddler. Make sure you have lots of floor space for those crawling moments!

Crib Mattress

Many parents often overlook this, but this is one of the important things to invest in for your baby/toddler. Providing a healthy, safe sleep is extremely important and helps with the development of your baby. Newton Living’s Wovenaire Crib Mattress makes the best breathable crib mattress and best ways to protect against the risks of suffocation. Suffocation is the leading cause of injury-related deaths among children less than a year old. The Newton allows the baby to breath right through it, also allowing air to circulate and body heat to dissipate so it keeps baby from overheating. It’s lightweight, fits all standard cribs and can be washed with soap and water.

Gender Neutral Hues

Instead of choosing your blue for boys and pink for girls, opt for neutral colored hues that are classic and timeless for all genders. This also allows you to mix and match prints and add pops of color.

Wow The Room With Wallpaper

Using contrast print and bold graphic patterns is a great way to encourage visual development. I love incorporating patters on the walls with chic wallpaper that really transforms your space easily and fast! I’m a huge fan of these self-adhesive vinyl wallpapers from Wallflora, because there’s no glue needed and all you do is peel the back side of the wallpaper and put up on your wall. This is a great choice for renters as there is no damage done to the wall.

Art That Inspires

Start your little one’s appreciation for art from the start. Creating a fun wall art creates a fun little space that both you and baby can appreciate. Minted has some great art that doesn’t break the bank, but also adds a nice touch to the room for a modern, chic feel to the room.

Pattern Is Essential

Some of my favorite places to incorporate pattern are not only the walls, but also even floor space and bedding. Add a pattern to the floor, like a rug or even floor tiles like I used for Kaia’s nursery. Living in a rental, all of our floors are tiles, which is such a hard surface and I wanted something that covers the entire room that makes the room more comfy. I really like the floor tiles from Flor, because if you ever move and the room is smaller or larger, you can always remove the tiles or add more. It’s super functional and adds a modern twist to the room. For bedding, opt for something fun and add some prints or pattern. I chose this cute hot pink pom pom bed skirt with a stripped crib sheet giving a chic look with a pop of color. This is a fun way to spruce up any room!
